CeMIS PhD Fellowship in Development Economics University of Göttingen
PhD Fellowship: The research group "Development Economics" at the Center for Modern Indian Studies (CeMIS) at the University of Göttingen invites applications for one or more fellowships to pursue a three-year PhD degree beginning in October 2024. The fellowship may be extended for an additional year depending on the progress of the PhD candidate.
The fellowship is open to candidates with an interest in India and the interdisciplinary research environment at CeMIS. Interdisciplinary research topics that are suitable for co-supervision with other faculty members at CeMIS are particularly encouraged (but not required). This fellowship seeks to address the highly unequal access to education facing students in India.
The fellowship will therefore fund a student from a marginalized background who has a commitment to social change. Students who do not qualify for this fellowship but are nevertheless interested in our research group can apply for another PhD fellowship that is simultaneously advertised.
To be eligible to apply, candidates must have a master's degree in development economics, global health or any other related field.
Applicants must provide the following materials
1. A cover sheet with your name, your date of birth and your contact details.
2. A letter of motivation and short description of your research interest of around 1000 words.
3. A personal statement of up to 500 words explaining how your background qualifies you for the fellowship.
4. A Curriculum Vitae
5. Official documentation of
(1) M.A. or M.Sc. certificate
(2) Transcript of records. The transcript must include a description of the grading system that specifies the grade range, from maximum to minimum
How to apply
Applicants have to submit all required documents in exactly the order given above in a single pdf document via email to applications@cemis.uni-goettingen.de by April 30, 2024. The subject line should be "CeMIS PhD Fellowship". Only complete applications in a single pdf file will be considered.
